About the event

DOC AT 100 is a concert program celebrating the life and legacy of Doc Watson by artists who performed with Doc, who were profoundly influenced by his music, and who called him a friend.

Ted Olson, professor of Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University, will MC the program and share his knowledge of Doc and his influence on the Appalachian culture and beyond, encouraging audience participation in the celebration.

Joining Ted will be guitarists Jack Lawrence, Wayne Henderson, and Jack Hinshelwood. Each of whom were heavily impacted by Doc’s music, either through direct collaboration over the years, or through his many recordings and performances. Wayne counted Doc as a close friend, especially in Doc’s later years when he enjoyed visiting Wayne in his guitar making shop in Rugby, Virginia, just a hop skip and a jump from Doc’s lifetime home of Deep Gap, North Carolina.
